COMPLETED PROJECTS

SEHATMANDI Project

Sehatmandi project which was started in January 2019, in Jawzjan and Saripul provinces, have been successfully completed at the end of January 2023, this project was financially supported by WB up to end of Jun 2021. After the political change occur in 15 Aug 2021 in the country this project was not supported by any donor for 1 months and 15 days (15 Aug till end of Sep 2021) then GAVI started financial support of this project for one month (October 2021), and then was financially supported by WHO for three months (November, December 2021 and January 2022), SAF implement this project in 4 provinces that includes Jawzjan, Saripul, Samangan and Faryab. And then from start of February 2022 till end of January 2023 this project was financially supported by WB through UNICEF/WHO and was successfully implemented in Jawzjan and Saripul provinces by SAF. 

AHF- MHNTs and Trauma Centers:

SAF has implemented AHF-MHNT and Trauma projects supported by the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) in 2021-2022, for the provision of emergency health services to the neediest and most natural disaster-affected population, to the marginalized communities of Afghanistan, this project was actually started in 15 November 2021 and ended in July 2022. Totally 7 trauma centers and 4 MHNT team were included in this project, this project was successfully implemented in Jawzjan Samangan, Faryab, and Saripul provinces by SAF organization.

AHF-MHNT Projects:

SAF, besides other core health system programs, is implementing covid-19 control and case management project funded by UNOCHA. The overall objectives of the projects are to protect our citizens through case management of Covid-19 patients, to respond to and mitigate the threat posed by Covid-19, and to strengthen the national health system’s preparedness and capacity to respond to public health emergencies. SAF offers covid-19 case management response through covid-19 wards to the affected covid-19 communities with the main focus on covid-19 patients. SAF has functionalized the Covid-19 (10 Beds) hospitals in Jawzjan, Samangan and Faryab provinces. In close coordination with the provincial public health Directorate and existing stakeholders, WHO and UNICEF, SAF will review the covid-19 case management and response assessment reports at the provincial level, and the covid-19 response and management team are assigned to cover preventive and lifesaving treatment services for covid-19 patients.

Covid-19 project

This project was started in Jun 2022 and was financlly supported by UNOCHA (AHF) fund, the project was successfully implemented by SAF in from 15 Jun 2022 till 14 December 2022 in Jawzjan, Samangan, and Faryab Province

In March 2022, following the implementation of four AHF- MHNTs projects in Jawzjan, Faryab, Sar-e-pul, and Samangan provinces, SAF planned and committed to implementing new AHF projects of five MHNTs including two in Balkh and three in Samangan provinces, remote villages, to cover up the white areas.

 

Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD)/ Cholera- Projects:

In July 2022, with the financial support of UNICEF, and implementation of five water Diarrhea (AWD) cholera teams in Jawzjan province, this project was from 15th July- to 15th January 2023 to cover up the AWD Outbreak in the high-risk priority areas in Jawzjan province, SAF planned and committed to implementing new (AWD) projects through the establishment of new IERTs Teams in Balkh, Samangan and Saripul provinces.

 UNDP Malaria:

The project continued through a contract signed in January 2021 in Jawzjan and Sarepul provinces. Fortunately, the project activities were extended in two other provinces through a new amendment in November 2021 in Faryab and December 2021 in Samangan province.

This project as per the contractual requirements will end on June 30, 2022.

The project contract has been implemented through 238 HFs (52 in Jawzjan, 71 in Sarepul, 68 in Faryab, and 47 in Samangan provinces) and 1461 health posts, covering a total of 2,837,957 populations in 2021.

This project was successfully implemented by SAF in Samangan, Saripul and Faryab provinces till end of March 2023.

 

Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) in Samangan Province:

SAF has been implemented the TSFP project in Samangan since Jan 2022, with the financial support of WFP. This project was ended on 30 Jun 2022.

TSFP is a component of Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM). The overall objective of the project is the treatment of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and prevention of severe.

AHF

AHF funded project (AFG18/348116RA/H-N/NGO/11424) in Jawzjan province “Improving accessibility of underserved population (IDPs and marginalized communities) of Jawzjan province to quality health care and nutrition services through Mobile Health Teams and fixed BPHS health facilities”:

Solidarity for Afghan Families (SAF) as of 25th of December 2018 took the responsibility of implementing the AHF/CHF funded project (AFG18/348116RA/H-N/NGO/11424) in Jawzjan province. This project as per the contractual requirements, continued till 25th of July 2019. SAF through this project offered mobile health and nutrition services to the IDPs and hard to reach communities in Sheberghan, Qushtepa, Darzab, Faizabad, Mingajik and Khajadoko districts of Jawzjan province with main focus on children and women, through five fully staffed and equipped mobile health teams (MHTs). In this way, 1 MHT reached the IDPs in Sheberghan city and Qushtepa district, 2 MHTs covered the white areas in Darzab and Faizabad districts and 2 MHT covered the white areas of Mingajik and Khajadoko districts of Jawzjan. In addition, SAF expanded the OPD SAM in 21 BPHS sub health centers (SHCs) of the province.

CHILD PROTECTION

Child Protection/AHF Project (Project Code: AFG-19/3481/RA4/APC/NGO/14847):

The Project Title: Provision of community-based protection services for at- risk and displaced children to prevent and respond to child protection concerns including early and forced marriages, girls’ inaccessibility to education, child recruitment, child labour and child abuse. This project after a competitive bidding process was awarded to SAF by UN-OCHA in December 11, 2019. Through this project, SAF in line with the strategic objectives and humanitarian response plan 2019 (HRP 2019), will offer the community-based protection services for at- risk and displaced children and their families in Saripul, Faryab, Takhar and Kunduz provinces in order to prevent and respond to child protection concerns including early and forced marriages, girls’ inaccessibility to education, child recruitment, child labour and child abuse. A total of 32,000 Children (17,000 girls and 15,000 boys) will be reached directly while 45,000 adults (25,000 women, 20,000 men) will be reached through community awareness on child protection. The project has been successfully completed in August 10, 2020.

COVID-19

  1. Consultancy Services for COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Projects in Jazwjan,  Saripul and Faryab provinces:

SAF has signed two separate contracts with the Ministry of Public Health for the implementation of this project in Saripul and Jawzjan province. This project is being funded by the World Bank/MoPH for a total of 12 months starting from May 03, 2020. The aim of this project is to avoid disruption of BPHS/EPHS service delivery under Sehatmandi project. However, the overall objectives of this project are to; 1) protect our citizens from the spread of COVID-19; 2) respond and mitigate the threat posed by COVID-19 in Afghanistan and; 3) strengthen national health systems preparedness and capacity to respond to public health emergencies.

Specific Objectives of the project are:

Objective 1:    To increase public awareness and promote healthy behaviours in regard to COVID-Objective 2:  To conduct community surveillance and early detection of COVID-19 suspected Objective 3:  To ensure infection prevention and control measures at the health facilities and community level.

Objective 4:    To Manage and isolate cases of COVID-19 suspected and confirmed cases.

SAF under this project will run two Covid-19 hospitals/isolation wards (each having 20 beds), 4 Rapid Response Teams and 17 District Centers in Jawzjan and Saripul provinces.

EDUCATION

Major Completed Educational Programs of SAF:

1.Community Midwifery Education (CME) in Nimroz:

SAF on 1st March 2014 started implementation of a high quality community midwifery education programs in Nimroz province in proper and fully equipped building with sufficient space for classrooms, library, skill lab, computer lab, and offices for teachers as well as management team, bathrooms and other required facilities based on approved standards of the MoPH. As parts of this assignment, SAF’s well experienced and professional teachers and instructors trained/educated 24 eligible students who were identified and selected from remote rural districts of the province according to the needs of the province/district for CME school in an intensive 24-months training program course in practical and theoretical fields. Totally, 24 well trained Community Midwives, after passing the theoretical and clinical exams were graduated from the CME School of Nimroz province. This program was successfully completed in 29th April 2016.
In the last month of the project, SAF ensured deployment of graduated community midwives in health facilities of their own villages or nearby villages as per the needs, through an effectively pre-planned deployment process and by involving the communities.

2. Community Nursing Education (CHNE) in Nimroz:

SAF started implementation of 24 months community health nursing education (CHNE) program in Nimroz province in 20th Nov 2014, through a well-equipped CHNE school, in which 24 female learners from the remote areas of the districts were put under training, in practical and theoretical fields, according to the accepted standards and CHNE curriculum of MoPH, by well experienced and professional teachers and instructors. Following the 24 months, this program was successfully completed and totally 23 well trained Community Nurses were graduated from the mentioned school in 20 November 2016.

3. Community Midwifery Education (CME) in Jawzjan:

SAF in Jan 2016 started the implementation of Community Midwifery Education (CME) program in a fully equipped CME school in capital of Jawzjan province. The 24 eligible female students have been trained according to the standardized CME curriculum of MoPH and with technical supports of AMNEB and GIHS, for 24 months teaching period. This program was successfully completed in Dec 2017 by getting 99% score in Binding Assessment conducted by AMNEB/ GIHS.


4. Community Nursing Education (CHNE) in Jawzjan:

Community Health Nursing Education program implementation in Jawzjan province, was started by SAF in Jan 2016, through a well-equipped CHNE school. Through this program 24 female students were put under training. The school’s students, at the side of the theoretical education, carried out their practical exercises in the provincial hospital of Jawzjan and some BPHS health facilities, under the guidance of their skilled clinical instructors. This program was successfully completed in Dec 2017 with getting 100% score in Binding Assessment by AMNEB/ GIHS.

ENVIROMENTAL PROTECTION

SAF is a member Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA). Not only this, but SAF is also a member of the steering committee of CANSA Afghanistan. 

Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA) is a coalition of over 150 civil societies organizations working in South Asian countries to promote government and individual action to limit human-induced climate change in a manner that promotes equity and social justice between peoples, sustainable development of all communities and protection of the global environment.
CANSA has been at the forefront of representing the southern perspectives at international climate negotiations and undertakes inter-governmental, regional, and national actions. With its large membership base CANSA works towards linking policy work, research and action based work in the region to address and set workable solutions to the adverse effects of climate change affecting the region.

SAF through CANSA is determined to contribute to the national and international efforts towards achieving the underneath objectives:

  1. CLIMATE FINANCE
  • To raise awareness and build capacity on options and processes in climate finance amongst key stakeholders (governments, cso’s, private sector) in South Asia region.
  • Advocate for transparency and accountability at national and sub-national level on utilization of climate finance.
  1. LOW CARBON DEVELOPMENT
  • To influence and enhance the 2020 NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions) targets and commitments of South Asian nations.
  • To independently monitor, assess and report the implementation of NDCs of South Asian countries
  1. CLIMATE RESILIENCE
  • To document and disseminate best practices of resilience across South Asia.
  • To mobilize and develop capacities of governments, communities and CSO stakeholders in framing appropriate adaptation and resilience building plans.
  1. LOSS & DAMAGE AND CLIMATE INDUCED MIGRATION
  • To advocate for protection of climate migrants in South Asia, particularly those who are forced to cross borders.
  • To highlight the need for loss and damage finance in South Asia at international and regional levels and demand a spate financial stream.

HARM REDUCTION

Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR):

The project of Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) was commenced on 1st September 2010 and was concluded in August 2011. The main goal of the project was to reduce risk of natural disasters in vulnerable areas (Shirintagab and Dwalatabad districts) of Faryab province. Oxfam-Novib was financially supporting the project with a total fund of USD 137,972.

Providing Consultancy Services for HIV Prevention and Harm Reduction Services for PWIDs in Kabul and Balkh provinces:

Solidarity for Afghan Families (SAF) successfully implemented these two projects in Kabul and Balkh, in two phases, from Aug 2008 to Sep 2017. Through these projects, SAF was providing preventive services for injecting drug users and preventing blood borne diseases including HIV, Hepatitis B&C as well as Syphilis through DICs, safe places and outreach services for PWIDs in Kabul and Mazar-e- Sharif cities. World Bank (WB) funded these projects. Total budget for the second phase of the projects (Oct 2014- Sep 2017) was USD 1,610,509

 

Harm reduction services to female prisoners (FIDUs):

Since June 2010, SAF is implementing a harm reduction project in Balkh province. The project is financially supported by UNODC with a total budget of USD 78,315 up to November 2013. The main objectives of the project were; 1) to provide basic health services to female inmates; 2) to identify female injecting drug users (FIDUs) in the female prison and; to provide FIDUs with HIV preventive services as well as harm reduction services. The project based on satisfactory performance of SAF was two times extended by the donor.

Community-Based & Night Shelter Services:

On Dec 2012, SAF once again was awarded the project of Community-based & Night Shelter Services by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with USD 76,500 fund, to be implemented in Kabul city till November 2013.  This project aimed at establishing an integrated model of drug abuse treatment by actively engaging the community, in planning and implementation of addiction treatment and ensure a community based rehabilitation. The services were focused on building on the trust and confidence of people who use drugs, and constitute a continuum of care, it will include; 1) Outreach; 2) Screening and early identification; 3) Brief intervention; 4) Patient assessment and treatment planning; 5) Case management; 6) Pharmacotherapy, where appropriate; 7) Evidence-informed individual and group counseling and relapse prevention; 8) Links to other health, social and rehabilitation services; 9) Mutual/self-help and; 10) Supporting access to ancillary services such as to educational, social and community resources (Vocational training, employment).

 

Night Shelter for Homeless IDUs:

As SAF was involved in delivery of HIV-harm reduction services among IDUs in Kabul and Balkh provinces, on 10th March 2010, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Solidarity for Afghan Families (SAF) entered into an agreement to provide humanitarian services in conjunction with existing harm reduction activities through a night shelter for 35 homeless drug users in Kabul city for a total period of 12 months. The project was financially supported by UNODC with a total budget of USD 26,096.

HEALTH

Jawzjan SEHAT-II project:

SAF as of July 2015, has been implementing all components of BPHS under SEHAT-2 program in Jawzjan provinces through 2 District Hospitals (DHs), one Comprehensive Health Center Plus (CHC+), 6 Comprehensive Health Centers (CHCs), 14 Basic Health Centers (BHCs), 1 Prison health Center, 21 Sub Health Centers (SHCs), and 332 Health Posts (HPs), in effective and efficient manner. CME and CHNE 24 months programs have been also parts of the project. The MoPH/ WB with a total budget, USD 7,542,026. This project will end on 30 June 2018.

SEHAT Phase-1 Project in Nimroz:

SAF successfully implemented the Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) in Nimroz province, under SEHAT phase-I, from 1st Jan 2014 to 30 June 2017, through 3 CHCs, 6 BHCs, one Prison health center, 7 SHCs, one MHT and 118 Health Posts. The CME and CHNE 24 month’s educational program in Nimroz, which were started by SAF in 2014, successfully completed and finally 46 well trained Community Midwives and Community Nurses were graduated from both schools in late 2016.

The project was financially supported by MoPH/ WB and SAF managed successfully a total budget of USD 4,780,575 for running of the project.

BPHS/PCH Projects in Faryab and Jawzjan: 

SAF has implemented two BPHS projects in FARYAB and JAWZJAN provinces under PCH program, from Nov. 2009 to June 2015. SAF through these two projects implemented all components of BPHS by running 4-DHs, 3-CHC-Pluses, 20-CHCs, 34-BHCs, 19 SCs, 2-Prison Health Centers and 893-HPs for a total of 1.5 million residents of Faryab and Jawzjan provinces with a total budget of around USD 30 Million (29,969,986).

BPHS/PPG project in Faryab province:

From 2006 up to 2009, SAF as sub-partner of AADA (the lead agency) has successfully implemented a BPHS/PPG project in first cluster of Faryab province. By this project, SAF provided all components of BPHS to a population of eight districts of Faryab province through 1-CHC-Plus, 5-CHCs, 4-BHCs and 127-HPs. The project was financially supported by USAID and SAF managed successfully a total budget of around USD 4 Million (3,940,989).

Implementation of BPHS project (PPA):

From July 2006 to Jun 2008, SAF as a sub-partner of BDF/BDN (lead agency), has successfully implemented a BPHS/PPA project in three districts of Ghazni province namely, Waghaz, Rashidan and Khugyani through 3 CHCs, with a total budget of 250,078 USD.

Improve Access to Quality Health Care through Sub Centers & Mobile Health Teams:

SAF from Jan 2009 to Dec. 2012 implemented a Basic Package Health Services (BPHS) project in Faryab province under the “Improved access to quality health care through 11 Sub Centers and one mobile health teams (MHTs)” serving to the most underserved and isolated population in six districts of Faryab province namely Shirintagab, Kohistan, Gorziwan, Pashtoonkoot, Almar and Qaysar in very remote areas. The project was financially supported by HSS-GAVI and SAF managed successfully a total budget of around USD 1,480,171.

CB DOTs:

This project was awarded to SAF by Management Sciences for Health (MSH) on 2nd of March 2012 and continued till 30th Sep 2012. The main objectives of the project were; 1) to improve and strengthen the community based DOTs activity at community level and strengthening laboratory microscopy at the Basic Health Center (BHC) level and; 2) increasing the case detection especially at early stages and growing efficient, accessible and equitable health

Reproductive Health Project:

SAF as sub partner, has implemented a reproductive health project in Kohistan district of Faryab province in association with Agency for Assistance and Development for Afghanistan (AADA), funded by UNFPA. Under this partnership SAF independently has been implementing a Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care (CEOC) in Kohistan district of Faryab from June 2008 till November 2009. This project with a total of USD 158,303 fund was focusing on strengthening infrastructure to increase access of women at childbearing age to CEOC services.

Expansion of post-partum hemorrhage (EPPH):

SAF has implemented the Expansion of post-partum project (EPPHP) in Jawzjan province. The project was funded by Jhpiego/ health service support project/ HSSP with a total budget of USD 49,456. This project aimed at studying the role of community based distribution of Mesoprostool (tablets) in prevention of post-partum hemorrhage and reducing the mortality rate among child bearing age (CBA) women. The project was implemented in 4 districts of Jawzjan province (Aqcha, Qarqin, Qushtepa and khamyab).

Results Based Financing (RBF) project:

Since Aug 2010, SAF started implementation the project of RBF in Jawzjan province. The project was a pilot BPHS supporting intervention aimed to improve performances of the clinical staff including MDs, Midwives, Nurses, vaccinators etc and increase their achievements towards selective BPHS targeted indicators. This project was funded by World Bank with a total budget of USD 252,469 till end of December 2013

Equipping of 5 BHCs with microcopy diagnostic capacity:

As a BPHS supporting project, it was awarded to SAF by MoPH on 1st of April 2011 and successfully ended on December 2013. The main objectives of the project were; 1) to improve the capacity of lab technicians; 2) to equip BHCs with microscopy diagnostic capacity and; 3) to increase the TB case detection at the health facility level (BHC level). The project was being financially supported by Global Fund with a total budget of USD 132,614. The project was implemented in 5 BHCs of Faryab province.

Implementation of CB DOTs in Faryab and Jawzjan provinces:

CB DOTs project was granted to SAF by MSH, INC on 2nd October 2012 with a total budget of USD 83,210 to be implemented in Faryab and Jawzjan provinces of Afghanistan. This project aimed at implementing the Community Based DOTS through the community health workers (CHWs). At the same time, the laboratory activities were regularly being supervised by the NTP Provincial Lab Supervisor, BPHS supervisors and CB DOTs focal persons. The project as per the contract was successfully completed at the end of December 2013.

Micronutrient Initiative Project (MI): On November 2009 SAF was awarded the Micronutrient Initiative (MI) project in Jawzjan and Faryab provinces. The MI project which was financially supported by MI-Canada till May 2010 with a total budget of USD 111,813, aimed at reducing the morbidity and mortality rate and prevent the impairment of cognitive development caused by micronutrient malnutrition among women and children.

Enhancement of TB Control Program (TB-CP):

SAF has implemented the project of Enhancement of TB Control Program/TB-CP in Faryab province from October 2010 till September 2011. The goal of this project was to reduce TB burden of Afghanistan by 2015 according to Afghanistan’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The direct beneficiaries of the program were women and Children. This project was funded by Global Fund/BRAC with a total fund of USD 61,718.

Sputum Collection Project:

SAF has implemented three projects of Sputum Collection areas in Jawzjan and Faryab provinces, with the financial support of MSH with a total budget of USD 8800. The main purpose of the project was to construct separate area for collection of sputum specimen in CHCs, CHC+ and DHs for the prevention of TB spread in the environment.

Strengthening Provincial HIV Program (SPHP):

Since April 2009, SAF was implementing the SPHP project in Balkh province. The project was being financially supported by GF/GIZ with a total budget of USD 289,662 up to September 2013. The main purpose of the project was to reduce the spread of HIV, reduce morbidity and mortality of HIV; and to mitigate the social impact of HIV and AIDS among the population in Balkh province. The project after evaluation of donor was two times extended.

HIV Training for BPHS Staff: The project of HIV training for BPHS staff was awarded to SAF on 01-06-2013 by GIZ with a total budget of USD 13,500.  The purpose of this project was to reduce spread of HIV, reduce morbidity and mortality of AIDs and mitigate social impact of HIV epidemic in Afghanistan by strengthening Provincial HIV & AIDs program (SPHP) through training of BPHS staff in Balkh province. The project was successfully ended on 31-08-2013.

NUTRITION

Improving Nutrition for Mothers, Newborns and Children in Jawzjan province of Afghanistan-A community focused approach:

This was a CIDA funded project which was awarded to SAF (as sub recipient) by Save the Children from 1st of July 2013 up to 31 December 2016 with total budget USD 99,988. The purpose of the project was to treat severely acute malnourished children at the existing health facilities in all 11 districts of Jawzjan province. The main activity of this project was, capacity building of staff and community based health workers at all provincial, health facility, and community levels in order to;

 1) promote good nutritional practices; 2) provide good quality nutrition services for mothers, newborns and children; 3) manage children with severe and moderate malnutrition at community level; 4) supporting MoPH in piloting integrating the management of acute malnutrition within INMNC program.

Targeted Supplementary Feeding program (TSFP) in Nimroz and Jawzjan provinces:

Through these projects, SAF was implementing Targeted Supplementary Feeding program (TSFP) in 11 health facilities of Nimroz provinceand 19 HFs of Jawzjan province, from Feb. 2016 to June 2017. These projects were complement of Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM). The overall objective of the project was treatment of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and prevention of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) among children 6-59 months and pregnant and lactation women (PLW). World Food Program (WFP) was financially supporting these projects with total budget of USD 298,742.

 

Supplementary Feeding programme (SFP):

On June 2013 the project of Supplementary Feeding programme (SFP) was granted to SAF by Save the Children with a total of 10, 331, 834 Afs in cash and 95, 916, 639 Afs in kind (3,181.989 Metric ton of food distribution).  SAF accordingly will establish Targeted Supplementary Feeding programme (TSFP) sites in the existing health facilities in 6 districts (Bilchiragh, Dawlat Abad, Kohistan, Maymana, Pashtun Kot and Shirin Tagab) of Faryab province to treat around 17,125 Moderate acute malnourished (MAM) children and 5,918 acutely malnourished pregnant and lactating mothers. This project will also be serving as TSFP component of a complete CMAM program including provision of support to Stabilization centers, OTP (Outdoor Therapeutic Program), community mobilization. The project ended on 31st December 2013. 

 

Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition and Nutrition Education and Rehabilitation System (CMAM/NERS) in Jawzjan Province:

Two projects of CMAM/NERS have been awarded to SAF by Save the Children in March and June 2012. The projects are designed to meet the emergency nutrition needs of infants and children under 5 years of age who are currently vulnerable to severe and moderate acute malnutrition and it will be ended on Dec 2012. Direct beneficiaries of this project are all under 5 children and lactating women in four districts of Jawzjan province namely Derzab, Qushtepa, Khanaqa and Mingajik. The projects were financially supported by SC with a total budget of USD 125,670.

Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM):

From 2009 up to 2011 SAF has implemented the Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) project in Faryab province. The project was financially supported by Oxfam-Novib with a total fund of USD 116, 154. After successful completion of the project the donor awarded to SAF the IYCF/CMAM project.

Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) project:

On September 2009 SAF was awarded the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) project by WFP. The project was implemented in two districts of Faryab province with a main objective to prevent malnutrition among children aged (6 months to 59 months) and lactating women by provide supplementary feeding support. The total fund of the project was USD 11,208 and the project ended on April 2010.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Strengthening the role of Afghan women and girls through comprehensive community action:

SAF in partnership with Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC) started implementation of this project in Jawzjan center, Shiberghan city and Kwaja Do Koh district, in 15.08.2017 and ended on 31.03.2018 for a duration of 7, 5 months, by financially support of British Embassy in Kabul. The overall objective of this Action is: Creating enabling environments for the empowerment of women and girls by addressing root factors affecting their access to health, education, employment, participation and self-determination, through:

  • Information sessions in clinics and hospitals (2 districts in Jawzjan)
  • Conduct workshops and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with health professionals
  • Establish Big Brother Networks in Jawzjan to target and engage men, like the Family Health Action Groups (FHAG) which only target the women. The total fund managed by SAF for the implementation of this program was USD 48,074 (16% of the total project budget).
