ENVIROMENTAL PROTECTION

SAF is a member Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA). Not only this, but SAF is also a member of the steering committee of CANSA Afghanistan. 

Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA) is a coalition of over 150 civil societies organizations working in South Asian countries to promote government and individual action to limit human-induced climate change in a manner that promotes equity and social justice between peoples, sustainable development of all communities and protection of the global environment.
CANSA has been at the forefront of representing the southern perspectives at international climate negotiations and undertakes inter-governmental, regional, and national actions. With its large membership base CANSA works towards linking policy work, research and action based work in the region to address and set workable solutions to the adverse effects of climate change affecting the region.

SAF through CANSA is determined to contribute to the national and international efforts towards achieving the underneath objectives:

  1. CLIMATE FINANCE
  • To raise awareness and build capacity on options and processes in climate finance amongst key stakeholders (governments, cso’s, private sector) in South Asia region.
  • Advocate for transparency and accountability at national and sub-national level on utilization of climate finance.
  1. LOW CARBON DEVELOPMENT
  • To influence and enhance the 2020 NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions) targets and commitments of South Asian nations.
  • To independently monitor, assess and report the implementation of NDCs of South Asian countries
  1. CLIMATE RESILIENCE
  • To document and disseminate best practices of resilience across South Asia.
  • To mobilize and develop capacities of governments, communities and CSO stakeholders in framing appropriate adaptation and resilience building plans.
  1. LOSS & DAMAGE AND CLIMATE INDUCED MIGRATION
  • To advocate for protection of climate migrants in South Asia, particularly those who are forced to cross borders.
  • To highlight the need for loss and damage finance in South Asia at international and regional levels and demand a spate financial stream.
