ONGOING PROJECTS

Health Emergency Response (HER) Project

 

SAF, since February 2023, is implementing all components of BPHS under the HER project in Jawzjan province through 2 District Hospitals (DHs), 2 Comprehensive Health Center Plus (CHC+), 5 Comprehensive Health Centers (CHCs), 14 Basic Health Centers (BHCs), 1 Prison Health Center, 25 Sub Health Centers (SHCs), and 351 Health Posts (HPs), effectively and efficiently. Currently, the BPHS program is ongoing, supported by UNICEF and the contract is signed up to end of December 2023.

  • Malaria project:

Strengthening and Scaling-up Malaria Preventive and Case Management to improve Health status in Afghanistan:

The main goal of this project is “to contribute to the overall improvement of the health status in under coverage province, through reduction of morbidity and mortality associated with malaria.

The project continued through a contract signed in January 2023 in Jawzjan province. This project is financially being supported by GF/UNDP.

The project planned control interventions in 2023 are as case finding of malaria disease through public sector health facilities and community, facility and community based diagnosis and treatment of malaria cases, training for in-charge of HFs, CHSs and Lab Technicians which are completed in 2022, and monitoring and supervision of project activities

The project contract has been implemented through 54 HFs (49 BPHS HFs, one PD, and four non-BPHS HFs) and 340 HPs in Jawzjan, covering a total of 800,553 populations in the targeted province.

  • Community-Based Nutrition program (CBNP):

SAF since 3rd April 2023, with the financial support of UNICEF, is implementing the Community Based Nutrition Program (CBNP), through 898 HPs in Jawzjan and Faryab provinces. The program’s overall objectives are:

To improve the capacity of CHW and other community volunteers such as Family Health Action Group (FHAG) members to provide age-appropriate and gender-responsive community-based nutrition services.

To increase the capacity of community mobilizers (such as health shura members, Community Health Supervisors (CHSs), Community Led-Total Sanitation (CLTS) facilitators, agricultural extension workers, etc.

To increase knowledge and awareness of mothers, adolescents’ child caregivers, and family members on key nutrition practices and behaviors.

 

  • Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP)

SAF is implementing the TSFP project in Jawzjan and Saripul provinces this project has been started in Jawzjan in 1st February 2023 and in Saripul in 1st January 2023 with the financial support of WFP, the project is going to be ended in December 2023.

TSFP is a component of Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM).

The overall objective of the project is the treatment of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and prevention of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) among children 6-59 months and pregnant and lactating women (PLW).

The specific objectives of the program are 1): To treat moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) among children aged 6 to 59 months, and to prevent these children from becoming severely malnourished. 2) To treat acutely malnourished pregnant and lactating women (AM-PLW) from the time of confirmed pregnancy up to their 6 months of breastfeeding. 3). To increase awareness and practice amongst caregivers, communities, and women of reproductive age in optimal infant & young child feeding and care, and maternal nutrition.

 

  • Fixed Price Contract Project (FPC)

Fixed Price Contract project is being implemented in Jawzjan province, the contract has been signed with MSH/AFIAT project and started from 1st Jun 2023 and is going to be ended on 31 December 2023. This project is financially supported by USAID/MSH/AFIAT, the main object of this project is to improve quality of care through continues support of HFs staff through regular mentorship and applying the HQIP checklist by 4 quality improvement officers (QIOs). The project staff are working with close coordination of MSH-AFIAT team based in Jawzjan province.

  • Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD)/Cholera Project:

 The AWD/Cholera project is being financially supported by UNICEF, which is started from 1st Aug and is implementing in Jawzjan, Balkh, and Saripul provinces, the project contract has been signed for 12 months, this project will cover 9 district in Balkh, 5 districts in Jawzjan and 1 district in Saripul province, totally 5 IERTs (2 in Jawzjan, 2 in Balkh and one in Saripul)

The main objective of this project is that the eligible population (men, women, children, caregivers, community members, and frontline workers) in high-risk districts are engaged, mobilized, and reached with key preventive messages on AWD/Cholera.
